Uptown Vanishing Points to Calhoun
OK, enough color deprivation. This is 31st Ave and Hennepin looking towards Calhoun. With an extreme wide-angle lens, this view turns into a wonderfully emphatic vortex of perspective. I really like the patterns salt leave on concrete. Oh, yeah, I faked a lot of color into this in post processing, I couldn't help it: I need color!0
Calhoun Square’s New Commons 2
They replaced the escalators as well, it's actually a cozy place in spite of the missing Starbucks. There's so much wrong with what I just said...3
Calhoun Square's New Commons
Check out the new spacious commons area at Calhoun Square. Very Mall. I barely recognize the place.1
Kitchen Window's New Grilling Deck
Calhoun Square Mall has been undergoing some big changes lately. Kitchen Window moved to where Border's Books was. They now have their own deck for grilling classes. How cool is that? I need to take classes3
Toboggan Rack in Uptown
Look closely, this minivan has a Toboggan Rack on the passenger side. I couldn't believe it when it went by me. I had to hurry to the intersection to catch it. Good thing too, I was able to throw in the winter biker, Loppet sign, Happy Hour sign, Uptown Theater sign and all the other acoutrements of Uptown.0
City of Lakes Loppet Sculpture
The Minneapolis City of Lakes Loppet Cross Country Ski Race comes right through my neighborhood of Uptown. On Saturday night, they light up ice sculptures all around Lake of the Isles. They have already begun construction of the ice sculptures. These pillars are part of the space created in the Northwest Bay.1
The Machines and Their Jaunty Hats of Snow
Here's the beauty of a large aperture at work. The soft glowing light of the city awash in snow. I found these soldiers on the lee of a Brueger's Bagels, their little hats of snow unperturbed by wind. That's the end of the series, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed sharing it with you. Backstory on this series: On February 26th, Minneapolis had seven inches of snow drop in a couple of hours. I ventured out in the evening with one lens: a 50mm f1/1.4 — ISO 320, wide open at f1/1.4 between 1/20 & 1/80 sec. With all the variables removed, I was free to explore all the compositional opportunities of shooting hand-held in the dark during a snowstorm.3
