With all the new stores going in up the street, the tired skuffed-up Uptown Theater and it’s near-by signs still keep a little of the local charm. Ah, not long until my little lost Bohemian home is cleaned up and called Updale.

On the property that used to be the famous Uptown Bar and Grill, they are building a secret, yet-to-be-announced retail location that is definitely not an Apple Store. The contractors installed giant panes of glass last Friday that came from Germany. The not an Apple Store has an all-glass front and blue steel pillars on both sides. We chatted with the contractor a bit and, besides not telling us that it was going to be an Apple Store, he said that the Suburban World Theater that is just to the south of the property has a structural problem… The wall is bowing out seven inches and the engineers had to change the design of the not an Apple Store to accommodate the problem. He didn’t seem concerned, so it must not be threatening, but still, what a headache.
You didn’t hear it from me, but the location of the rumored new Apple Store in Uptown Minneapolis is really starting to look like an Apple Store. I wonder what FirstTech thinks of this?
Every so often the mundane shocks me with its beauty.
This gnome-like kingish where-the-wild-things-are-looking sculpture from the Loppet got really creepy just before face-planting. Alas, a week of rain washes away all the evidence.
The cross-country ski race known as a “Loppet” is coming to Uptown on Feb 6&7. That Saturday night they light up ice sculptures with candles all around the lake. This is the beginnings of the sculpture at the Northwest corner of Isles. It’s quite the sight to behold and to take photos of. If you are interested in coming down to take photos, leave a comment and let me know, there’s a group of us locals planning the best locations and techniques.
