Nature Valley Bike Festival Women's Pro Starting Line

The Nature Valley Bike Festival was in Uptown Friday. This was the Women's Pro race. They raced for 25 laps around the Uptown course. This was the beginning of lap 22.

Nature Valley Bike Festival - Women's Pro Race

Friday was the Nature Valley Bike Festival right here in Uptown! It was very cool, fun to see all the activity in town. The best part? It tied up the neighborhood for only a few hours. Thank you to the organizers for minimizing the impact on the community. They were removing all the stuff Saturday morning; very unlike the occupying armies of the Loppet and the infernal Uptown Art Fair.

Uptown Apple Store Opens Today!

I went down to watch the Nature Valley Bike Festival in Uptown Friday and was surprised to see the scaffolding gone and the beautiful glowing Apple Store all ready for business. They are having their Grand Opening today at 10:00am! If you go, take a moment to stare blankly at the rubble across the street where Kitchen Window used to be. If you look closely, you can see a reflection of the gaping hole in the side of Calhoun Square with a loader parked atop the pile, like a prize fighter proudly standing on his vanquished foe. Extra credit if you can see the bikers in the reflection too. P.S. I just noticed that one of my photos made the cover of MPR's Minnesota Today site!

Splash of Uptown

I love taking telephoto shots in town, the compression flattens out the scene and emphasizes the repetitive nature of the landscape. Don't you just love her goofy backpack? with the all-black outfit, it just jumps out. Besides, did you notice? A pay phone! One of like four left in town.

Living on a Grid

The honesty of disrepair on full display in sharp relief. Isn't it interesting that the shadows are only so clear because of the clear bright sky? This tableau caught not only my eye, but Dusty's too.

Signs of Uptown, Minneapolis

With all the new stores going in up the street, the tired skuffed-up Uptown Theater and it's near-by signs still keep a little of the local charm. Ah, not long until my little lost Bohemian home is cleaned up and called Updale.
