Harriet Trolley in the Green

Did you know that there's a Trolley that runs between Lake Harriet and Lake Calhoun? You can learn more about the Trolley here. I like to walk the track on my way to and from Harriet from Uptown, it's a nice quiet little stretch that almost nobody knows about.

Train Crossing the Midtown Greenway

I love the network of trails in Minneapolis! The Rails-to-Trails Conservancy tries to convert abandoned railroad right-of-ways to trails, but here in Minneapolis the trails share them. Around mid-morning, the trains are very active as the cross-country trains come in and the trans-yard trains begin the daily shuffle. This guy is from the Twin Cities and Western (TC&W), the morning train usually has three engines, which isn't that interesting, but I looked up their website and found that they only have eight of them, so it's almost half of all their motive power.  It's fun being a geek in the land of infinite information... I love summer on the prairie...

As the World Rumbles By

The retired container lift gazes on from it's gravel pasture as the world's goods rumble by. Imagine all the goods that pass through the great Union Yard that was once the common ground of over 30 individual railroads.

Starburst Express

Remember the part about me and Dusty getting detained by the police? This is kinda where we were. That's the new Northstar Commuter station on the left, below the new Target Field Stadium, oh, and that's a BNSF freight train bearing down on us. One of four that came through in a short time. I guess the joy of playing by the tracks in the open fields encourages bad behavior in the city. Seriously, don't be like me. If you do decide to do what I do not what I say, keep moving, so the transit police don't have time to track your sorry butt down. My favorite part of this photo, aside from the starbursts, is the refection on the wet rail ties.

Light Rail Station at Hennepin

The Minneapolis light rail train waits for pedestrians and traffic before crossing Hennepin Avenue.  Notice the car on the right? Yes, Hennepin is now a two way as well as First Avenue. The new Target Stadium is barely visible in the top left. The December 1st Theme day photo is Waiting. Click here to view thumbnails for all participants

Lightrail to Target Field

The Minneapolis Lightrail commuter train now goes to the new Target Field baseball stadium. The intersection of 5th and 2nd is unbelievably confusing, there's two streets, a train and a city parking lot entrance.

Morning Frieght Run Over the Misssisssippi

Clattering and rattling over the old span, one of four freight trains in less than an hour passes over the mighty Mississippi river. This bridge also carries the Northstar commuter train into downtown Minneapolis.
