Today is the First of September, the first day of Autumn and another theme day for the City Daily Photo Blog. What do these lovely roses have to do with Minneapolis’ sister cities? Well, there’s two of them… how’s that? not good enough? They are from the Lyndale Park Rose Garden that I talked about a while ago which is across the street from the Harriet Peace Garden, a Japaneese-style garden dedicated to Minneapolis’ (ready?) Sister City, Hiroshima. I went there this morning to take a photo fo the Peace garden, but as all peacful things, it’s tucked in a valley and I, not being too peacful, decided not to wait for the sun to climb over the trees; choosing to go for the roses instead. I’ve posted previously from the Peace Garden, but that was a photo of a pine tree in a snowstorm and I knew you people wouldn’t go for that one. Snow shots are just not right this early, after all, it’s the first day of autumn, not the last.

Actually, I did manage to find a photo blogger from a sister city, his name is Thomas Marquart, who lives in Uppsala, Sweden (another Minneapolis sister city) Here’s his blog Fiket. Hop on over and check out Uppsala.

Welcome to Friday, the last of the Obstruction series, it’s also the first of the month and a CDPB Theme Day! The Theme is “metal” and what better metal for Obstruction than a fence, chains and locks. This was taken at the construction site of the New UM Stadium. If you look closely, you’ll see that the locks are connected by short sections of chain. Each lock allows different people to access the site with their own lock. A rather inventive idea.

I hope you enjoyed Obstruction Week, now get out there and deal with your obstructions — defeat them or turn them into art, either way, they are there to either strengthen you or make you more interesting.

The City Daily Photo Blog Theme for July is to post a picture of a sign in your town that includes the text “no”. This isn’t my home of Minneapolis, but of The Wisconsin Dells. I drove through there after Lake Delton washed down stream. Learn more here.

As tragic as this event was, I found this sign oddly entertaining, the one good view of the missing lake had not only these signs, but they had parked a semi trailer to block the view from the main road. As if to say “Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.” I would have taken more pictures, but I kept my Jeep rolling so ever slowly forward as I took this, so as to comply with “No Standing.”

Good luck to the industrious people of the Dells, I’m sure you’ll have the lake back in no time. Lake Delton Isn’t the main draw, the rivers through the area are the amazing part, plus the Vegas-like main drag is still going strong.
