Lakeside Wildflower Theme Day
The CDPB Theme for August is 'Bright colors'. I chose this photo since it's not and obvious brightly-colored object, but an effect I enjoy. When the sky is overcast, colors are relatively more vivid, something I learned from my painting instructor Joe Paquet. I shot this on the Lake of the Isles shoreline at 5:45 in the morning in the cool overcast morning. Click here to view thumbnails for all participants in the theme day.2
Flower at the Conservatory
Are you getting the idea that I'm ignoring the great Minnesota outdoors during the Month of February? It's true; snow, ice, rain and gray over-cast days can take the wind out of a photo blogger.1
Fern Detail
This close-up of a fern leaf was shot with a macro lens wide open to f3.2. This landed me a sharp detail with a shallow DOF. When I brought it into Lightroom, I was able to sharpen up the edges and add a vignette to focus your eye on the detail.2
Photographers take over St. Paul Como Conservatory
The Camera and Artist Event at Marjorie McNeely Conservatory, St. Paul Minnesota - every few months the Conservatory opens early on Sunday and allows photographers to bring their tripods in. I felt so out of place, I decided to leave the tripod at home and just enjoy my time there. It was such a sunny morning, the tripod seemed unnecessary. If I wanted to use a tight aperture I could have brought the tripod, but if you are familiar with my style, you'll notice I really enjoy the shallow DOF of a big lens.0
