Yes, it’s all fake. They hauled it in for the Loppet Cross Country Ski Race. Yes, a ski race in the city. No, I don’t get it either.

What happened to “leave no trace”?
The best part is that it can’t melt correctly because they compress it, so the sidewalk gets covered in ice. on a hill, that’s very dangerous. I’m sure-footed and I had a hell of a time on it.

Yeah. Those evil Nordic skiers. Maybe they should just set a ski/skate kiosk at each end of the mall after the event so pedestrians could strap them on to cover this stretch.
I don’t think they are evil.
I just believe you should pick up your toys when you are done playing with them. I’m pretty sure that when they dumped snow all over Hennepin in years past, they didn’t just push it aside; they removed it.
Anyhow, I’m done carping about the Loppet snow-paving mess. The combination of the winter blues and the muddy snow pile I have to look at every damn day finally set me off. The rain should get rid of most of it.
At great expense. Too expensive in fact to do it there again. I believe we’re going to see if we can try to address some of this issue next year. I’ve suggested shoving more of it to the north towards the Greenway, and away from piling it at the intersections.
The sun will soon shine and we’re starting to see green poke through again!
That’s a big hill to climb, literally. Any approach from the lake would be very steep to get up on the greenway. Why can’t the race end on the lake? What about the parkland by the dogpark? Or the south end of Calhoun or North beach? What about ending by the beautiful Ice sculpture park in the northwest corner of Isles? There’s more room there than on the greenway!
