3 Pumps for Hump Day
Thee gas pumps stand guard over the old station at the Log House Pioneer Village. This is where I realized that the place was too clean. A building like this should be surrounded with weeds and have a few rusting hulks 'round back. The gang and I are planning some excursions to find ghost towns around the area. If you are interested to joining us for an adventure, or have some suggestions of locations to check out, let me know.1
Thing: Outstanding in Its Field
Don't you just love the colors of summer? So rich, so saturated, so green. I just want to sink my bare toes into the grass, flop down and watch the clouds. I imagine this thing to be a custom-made device who's sole purpose was to move this ordinary-looking but highly-valuable rock. The creator and his team of laborers struggled across the open prairie, fighting the elements and fleeing the forces of evil, hot on their heals. This was their last stand, like little big-horn, they were outnumbered and lost. The pursuers claimed all their worldly possessions except the rock and the machine. So alas, until this day, the rusting hulk and the cleverly-disguised 1700-pound gold boulder remain ignored by all but the man who must mow around it every Tuesday. Some day, after a long, hard-drinking three-day weekend, he'll clip it with the mower and the truth will be exposed; let's hope he survives his relatives.3
Prairie Grain Elevator - Pioneer Series
It's Monday and time for another series! This grain elevator and the following days' images are from the Log House Pioneer Village. A very interesting place discovered by my friend & fellow blogger Dan. — more about that place as the series unfolds. As much as I enjoy the rolling hardwood forest lands of Minneapolis, getting out on the flat surrounding plains is a welcome change. I live near the lakes so I can see a good stretch of horizon ever so often but out in these lands you can see for miles. Not as bad as North Dakota, where you can watch your dog run away for a week.1
Ducky Day at the Lake
I think this little guy is actually smiling at me. He and his mom are enjoying the calm waters of the Lagoon between Lake Calhoun and Lake of the Isles.1
