Sailboat on Lake Calhoun
The Minneapolis chain of lakes are in full swing. This last weekend, Calhoun was as busy as it gets. This photo is a real rule-breaker, I shot almost straight into the sun. It bright enough to drag out the infamous 600mm Sigma mirror lens and pull this boat in nice & close.
Hi Mitchster! Brilliant photo! The bright, sharp image of the sails with the shimmering water – c’est formidable! Regards from friendly EAGAN
Do I ever love the scene, Mitch! Love how the water sparkles.
This is the picture of summertime! This right here makes me wonder why I ever left the Cities… (the shots from December to March remind me though)
Whoa! Not only close, but sharp! And terrific colors! I haven’t thought much of Sigma lenses, but I may have to take another look…so to speak. A 600 mm is gonna set you back a few buckaroos, though, right?

Actually I bought the Sigma on ebay for $180 or so. It’s manual focus and a real pain to work with, but I like the challenge. If you slum on ebay for cheap lenses, you can find some interesting things.

Thanks for the info, Mitch. I’ll have to check out e-Bay…as I noted, I was surprised by the quality of the photo as I haven’t heard a lot of good things about Sigma lenses…
