The Machines and Their Jaunty Hats of Snow
Here's the beauty of a large aperture at work. The soft glowing light of the city awash in snow. I found these soldiers on the lee of a Brueger's Bagels, their little hats of snow unperturbed by wind. That's the end of the series, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed sharing it with you.
Backstory on this series: On February 26th, Minneapolis had seven inches of snow drop in a couple of hours. I ventured out in the evening with one lens: a 50mm f1/1.4 — ISO 320, wide open at f1/1.4 between 1/20 & 1/80 sec. With all the variables removed, I was free to explore all the compositional opportunities of shooting hand-held in the dark during a snowstorm.
Very nice, Mitch. I’ve been experimenting with the f1.8 and it’s not too bad. But, still…the f1.4 calls…a siren call and I’m very weak…
