Your point is absolutely true.  Sometimes, when shooting an event, I walk around with two camera bodies, one with my midrange lens and one with the big telephoto.  Might as well be working for National Geographic as far as crowd reaction goes.  You must get that "hey, mister, are you from the paper?" often enough.  Carrying a DSLR certifies you as a Real Photographer in a way that a point-and-shoot never can.  Occasionally that puts people off but more often it opens them up.</description>
