Happy New Year!

Another year in the can (old school photography term). Thank you all for visiting and thank you to all the city photographers for such wonderful work! The picture above originally ran on October 21, it was taken at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. I was out with Carol Anne and her daughters. Carol Anne and I took Chris Marquart’s four-day photography workshop together.

After going through all my photos from this year I discovered that there aren’t many people in my pictures. So one of the New Year’s resolutions that I can actually keep is to try to include more fellow humans in my posts.

If you aren’t familiar with the Daily City Photo Blog, it’s a portal for city photos from all around the world. They have themes every month and this month’s theme is “the best photo of the year.” Here are the top ten photos that I chose from.

The theme for February is “When People Think of My City They Think of…” So if you have any ideas for Minneapolis, let me know. MOA, IDS, the Spoon, a mountain of snow, a broken & bottomed-out thermometer?

Here are the other city bloggers that are in on the theme this month:

I checked your other choices, and I believe that this is the best for today’s theme. Great job! And I like the way it’s coordinated with your own Mitchster theme. May 2008 be your best year yet, and I have a message for you:

An Old Irish Blessing
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

good choice for the theme – high noon, rush-hour and the crane/truck were my favourites of t’others.

Jilly - 01 Jan 08 at 10:00:19

For some off reason I can’t get your pics. Get everything else including the comments. Anyway Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I’ll be visiting this year. I enjoy your pictures.

Strangetastes - 01 Jan 08 at 11:13:51

Very strong image. It grabs my eye and pulls me through a field of green to the subject.

I’m sure you could do excellent people work. Here’s a thought: I took Bobbi Lane’s introduction to portrait photography workshop last summer and it blew me away. She’s doing the natural light side of it, called Portraits Unplugged, on Bryan Peterson’s online Perfect Picture School of Photography, http://www.ppsop.com/port.aspx. I’ve taken a couple of online PPSOP courses and thought they were good quality. Check it out. If you sign up, tell Bobbi I said hi.

There are a bunch of nuts doing a water ski show in the Mississippi in just a bit. Likely some of it will find it’s way onto my blog.

Looking forward to many more of your great pix in the new year.

I like this pic; simple yet says a lot. I too have very few portraits in y photo portfolio. I must admit, I do not take portraits. They never seem to look right, always come out “staged”, stiff, and uninteresting. Time to learn a new trick I imagine.

wishing you a happy and asfe new year!

Eric@ParisDailyPhoto - 01 Jan 08 at 12:05:31

J’adore cette photo ! It’s a real masterpiece. Colours are bright, vivid, I sure understand why you picked it. Thank you for taking part in the City Daily Photo community.

Bonne année (happy new year)!

I see you’ve already received recognitions for this photo (winner of a Two-Week Photo Challenge?), so you certainly don’t need my kudos… but it’s still a neat picture, and I still wish you a happy new year. :)

Wayne - 01 Jan 08 at 21:06:02

I think that is a great shot Mitch, and I am going to make the same resolution: to get more people in my pictures! Hey, it doesn’t hurt any that the green in your photo goes well with the green on your website!

Happy New Year wishes you to and yours. May ‘08 be filled with Joy and Love and Prosperity for you all.

Hi Mitch, thank you for visiting Seguin DP and leaving a comment. This is my first visit to your blog and I love it! This shade of green is my favorite color and the composition is also fantastic. Your photography is wonderful to look at so I am really happy to have had a chance to visit. I like the snowy scene with the one tree from days earlier; it’s beautiful and very serene. Happy 2008! I look forward to continued visits back to Minneapolis.
