I took this picture Saturday in Northern Wisconsin. It was three degrees above zero and I was on my snowshoes. I wandered the lake and took a few pictures. I was waiting for a dramatic sunset, but all it did was get dark.
The best part: I was on a chain of lakes. The water moves under the ice as it flows through the lake systems and makes strange thumping sounds under the ice. Not as fun as hearing it crack when it’s really cold (zero is warm up here). The super-cold cracking is absolutely terrifying.
Mom: I know, I know, but there were snowmobile tracks on the lake, so it was OK right?

Beautiful winter scene, in fact there isn’t a bad picture on this page!

EXCELLENT colors! Love the green, blue, white… great contrast.
Neat shot, neat story… love that nod to your Mom. Yes, must make sure Mom is okay. Really though, great shot… wow, cracking ice… no, don’t want to be standing on it when that happens. Oh, and don’t you just HATE IT when it just gets dark like that!
Thanks,
Wayne

Thanks for the comment, yeah, that ice cracking can sound like a gunshot, or more like a star wars blaster. Not often the ground under your feet makes loud scary sounds. When it gets dark up there, it gets DARK! I’m used to the continuous glow of the city, where dark is not being able to read the time on a cell phone without waking it up.
